Chapter 1
Ding-Dong
Ding-dong went the Wire household doorbell. I rushed to answer it. It was Sally.
“Hi Wire,” Sally said.
“Oh hey, come in.” I stepped aside.
It was 1:30 pm. Sally was coming over for a sleep over. We played Scrabble, Twister, and Life. As soon as we finished playing games, we had Papa John’s pepperoni pizza. Then we fell asleep.
Chapter 2
The Wizard and the Monster
After everyone was asleep, a bad monster had passed our front yard. A wizard was trying to catch him. I didn’t know this at the time. The wizard had magical dust. This special dust could shrink things. His plan was to shrink the Monster, and then step on him. What a great plan, but it didn’t work. It was dark. The wizard has a helper. He threw the special, magical dust at his helper. Down the helper shrunk. Then, right after the helper shrunk, a dirt patch where some of the dust landed, grew grass.
Chapter 3
Shrinking Down
It was morning, I thought. I rubbed my eyes slightly. Yep, it was morning, it really was. I walked out of bed. Then, I got my clothes on. I woke up Sally. She got ready to go outside. Next, Sally and I did our normal walk to inspect things. We silently walked outside. Sally saw a new patch of grass (the one we didn’t know about). Sally yelled,
“Wow, I never knew that patch of dirt grew grass!” She examined the patch. Sally touched it. She was SHRINKING!!!!
“Sally,” I whispered. No answer. “Sally,” I whispered, a little louder. Still no answer. “Sally,” I said, now in my regular voice, for the final time. No answer. Then, I touched it too. I closed my eyes, just in time. Whoosh, all this air rushing past my face. It felt like a bullet. Bam, I had hit the ground.
“Oww,” I said. I rubbed my forehead. I opened one eye. Everything looked weird. It looked like a huge rain forest. I got up, walked around, and was yelling at the top of my voice, “SALLY!!!”
I couldn’t find Sally for a very long time. An hour, I suppose. I was losing hope. I walked on and on. No, I told myself, I won’t give up. My VERY hard work paid off. After two whole hours (I think), I found Sally. What a relief!
She was lying on a four leaf clover. When I tried to climb up the stem I noticed I couldn’t get up that way. I sat down to think, Do I have anything in my pocket?
Right after I asked that question I reached into my right pocket and I found a rope! Then in my other pocket I had a paper clip. I thought again, Could I use this? I looked at my materials. Yes, I could use these things. I attached the paper clip to the rope. I threw the attached paper clip and rope up towards the clover. Missed, I thought.
Then I opened up the paper clip to hold on. I threw it again, Yes! I did it! Now, what? I thought. Maybe I could climb it, but just maybe, I thought. In previous gym classes, I chickened out of rock climbing. All of my friends laughed at me, except Sally. I’ll do this for her, I thought. I grabbed hold of the rope. You can do it Sally would be saying, I thought, again. I gulped, took a deep breath, then started. It was scary at first then I got the hang of it. That wasn’t scary, I thought after I made it up. The moment I saw Sally, I ran to her.
“Sally, Sally…” I started yelling, frantically.
“Uhh,” were the first words out of Sally’s mouth. She rubbed her forehead then said,” Where am I, Wire?” I told her everything I knew at the time.
“How did you get up?” Sally asked after I finished talking. I showed her the rope. “Wow, that’s amazing,” Sally exclaimed. Once we were on the ground, Sally spoke, “What are we going to do?”
I replied, “Well, I don’t know.” Sally looked behind us and let out a scream.
“RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!” she screamed. Sally gripped my hand so tight it hurt. I got dragged along until I looked. I screamed even louder. There was a spider as big as us! I ran for my life!
Then Sally took my paper rope contraption and threw it at a clover. It clipped and we swung. Did I tell you she’s such a thrower? Well, she is.
Once on the clover, Sally still gripped my hand. Her face looked like a white snowy cloud. With my free hand, I waved right in front of her face. She shook her head and let go of my hand.
“Oww…” I said.
“Sorry…” Sally said quietly.
I couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong?” Sally had tears in her eyes.”Well, I want to go home!” Sally started crying. I tried making her feel better by saying,
“Everything will be all right, Sally.”
After those encouraging words, Sally scribbled down a note, too messy to read.
Chapter 4
The Man
“Wh-who’s that?” Sally managed to sniffle, pointing at a man. My eyes went wide. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Was I right? A man our size was right there? Yes, he was there. A goofy looking man.
I said, “Who are you and how did you get here?”
“Well, I’m the great ol’ mighty wizard! Who are you!!!!???!” the man yelled.
“Take it easy, mister, I’m Wire and this,” I pointed to Sally, ”is Sally. Could you help us down, sir?”
“Sir, SIR?!?! Oh no, you don’t call me sir. You call me…” his voice trailed off.
Sally said shyly, “Umm, remember getting down?”
“Oh, yeah.” He pulled out a wand. “Maga Laga lift!!!!!!!” he yelled with great expression. A blinding sparkle came out of his wand. An invisible hand was picking us up. It squeezed us really hard. I couldn’t breathe at all. Then it let go.
“What, Who?” I wheezed. My hand went to the side of my forehead. My knees gave out.
“Wire, you all right?” the man said. I was soon standing again. He was wearing a purple robe and a cone shaped hat. “I’m Robby but you can call me Rob. I am a wizard in training. A WIT for short. Why are you here?”
“It’s a long story.” I replied.
“Well, we have all the time in the world!” I told Rob the entire story. He told me his story, so I was surprised by his story of the monster.
Chapter 5
Of All the Dogs in the World
After we’d informed each other, I heard a jingle. Oh no, I thought. Then I heard a bark.
“Run!!!!!!!” I screamed. Sally turned around and ran. It was my yellow lab, Emily! I heard the jingle, jingle of the dog collar. It brought back a happy memory for a second. Then I remembered that I small and the smile went away. I knew exactly what to do. I said,
“Sally, get on my shoulders.”
“Why?”
“Just do it!” I exclaimed. Sally got on with ease. I threw her up on to the enormous yellow lab. She was fine, of course. Did I tell you that she was in gymnastics? Oh… I threw the paper clip invention up to her. Of course during all of this, I was still running for my life.
“Throw the rope down!!!!” She did rather hastily. I grabbed the rope, and attempted to climb up, swinging, swaying. I was halfway there. I felt the fur of my yellow lab, Emily. After I was up, Rob grabbed the rope and climbed. Kerplop. Sally sat in the front of what seemed like a school bus, I sat in the middle, and Rob in the back. Just like a school bus, I thought. Light was fading away. Rob said over the thundering paws slicing the paws,
“It’s sundown. We need to get of this dog now.” He pointed at the ground.
“How?” was all I could get over the loud piercing sound. Poof, there was an air mattress.
“Jump!!!!” Rob yelled. Sally took of and so did Rob. I seemed to be plastered to my seat, it felt like to me.
Sally yelled, “Wire!” at the top of her lungs. The world paused to me. What was I supposed to do? Stay? Jump? Before I could decide, I fell off my dog. I was unconscious, but I could still hear. Sally’s worried voice said, “Do you think he’ll be alright?”
Rob’s depressing voice breathed deeply, “I’m afraid he has a broken wrist, but other then that he’ll be fine.” I felt Sally’s warm, cozy hands over my heart.
“He’s still breathing,” Sally said quietly.
“Well, let’s pick him up and put him on the mattress,” Rob’s big, loud voice boomed. Next thing I knew, Sally was holding my hands and Rob was holding my feet. After, I fell asleep.
When I woke up, the bright sunshine was blocked by an enormous figure. Well, actually two. It was my mom and dad standing side by side looking left and right.
“What shall we do? He and Sally have gone missing. Should we put an ad in the paper?” The big loud voice of my dad boomed.
“Not yet, Gerald. We should wait a little longer,” my mom replied. Oh no! They recognized our disappearance!
“Psst,” hissed a voice. “Over here!” It sounded like it was coming from the right. I walked to the right, toward the mysterious voice. “Gotcha!” I was in a net with duck tape over my mouth.
“Mmmm!!!!” was all I could say.
“What was that?” snapped the mysterious voice. Walking into the light was a beetle! “Aha! Breakfast time!” Two more beetles walked into the light. In the bottom of the net there was a hole big enough for me to slip through. I slipped through ever so quickly, then ran as fast as I could away from the beetles.
“Gate, Bruce, seize him!!” The sight I saw was the greatest! I saw Rob, Sally and a golf cart the size of us.
“Jump in!” cried Sally, making room for me. I jumped in. Rob pressed down on the gas. “Are you okay?” Sally asked, peeling off the duck tape.
“Yeah,” I said calmly.
“Rob found the wizard.”
“Who?”
“The wizard. You know, monster, wizard,” Sally answered. A light bulb went on in my head.
“Will we go back to normal size?” I asked, excitedly.
“Yes! That’s the exciting part I was getting to. Are you ready!?!” Sally smiled.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
“We’re ready Rob,” Sally half yelled, half said.
“Ally soo!” exclaimed Rob.
I heard woosh and bam. When I opened my eyes, I saw we were all lying in my front lawn. I would miss small life forever. Or would I?
